Hi guys, how do I remove the shift rod to replace the bushing? I should be getting my rebuilt transmission next week or so and I would like to replace the bushing as I have a bit of play. My car is a 1999 mexican beetle.

I read I have to remove 2 access place in front of the car and I did but the only thing I see through there are 2 hoses, anything else. The access covers are the one in the front apron and behind the spare tire. Have no idea what those hoses are for.

Thanks for any help in advance.

JR.

Hi !

Maybe the hoses for an Oilcooler. You have to remove the oval tin cover to get out the shift rod.

Hello JR,
there is a much easier way to replace it.
Use a a split one.

In this case you hadn't to remove the shift rod.

The plate you have to remove is the oval plate between the two beams of the frontaxle. So you have to watch under the car not under the front hood. Then you have to slide the shift axle out and change the bushing
But to use the easier way manfred wrote about would be even better. I'll do that next time too.
Just take the shifter out and replace..
