1600i Exhaust

Beitragvon Gonzales » Mo 18. Jul 2011, 20:16

Hi everyone,

Im looking into replacing my exhaust which has a catalytic converter. I have checked the prices from various places to find that they are quite expensive. About 500-800GBP!

Has anyone ever fitted an aftermarket exhaust without a cat? I was considering a nice sporty stainless steel system. I realise I will fail my MOT but I was going to refit the cat one when I go for my MOT.

Will this effect the ecu?
Also would i have to find somewhere to put the lamda sensor? What does the lamda sensor do? Exhaust gas temp?

If anyone has any alternative exhaust solutions id be greatful.
Thanks
Andy

Hi Andy,

Have you tried the VW Classic Parts Center on http://www.vw-classicparts.de/e_content ... e_cp_index ? They are a lot cheaper than places such as Beetles UK, who haven't got a clue. The part number for the catalytic converter is 043251063C and they cost €316,23 excluding postage and 19% german sales tax.

Running the 1600i without a catalytic convertor isn't a good idea as the ECU relies on the lambda probe's voltage to set the 1600i's fuel/air mixture correctly.

Hello Andy,

first of all, sorry for my bad english but I hope that you will understand what I'm trying to tell. What about your catalytic convertor? Is it damaged? If not, there is a solution to replace only the exhaust. Please have a look on the following page: http://www.gebrueder-behling.de . There your will find the Online Shop from the Brothers Behling / Sottrum (near Bremen). There you can acquire [u]only[u] the exhaust for 149,-€. The only Problem is that you have to weld the new silencer with the old catalytic convertor. My colleague did it and the result looks promising.

regards

The replacement from Behling works well. A manual how to weld correctly is included and should be performed by your garage at least in 1 hour. If your Catalyst works fine there is no need to replace the full exhauster.
VW Classic Parts still provides 1600i enthisiastics will full exhausts however, they can not guarantee for the future time.
