I have a 2003 Mexican Beetle with the Ultima-type immobiliser system. I have two RFID key-fobs (one red, one black) which disable the immobiliser when I pass either fob beneath the ignition barrel.

My black fob has suddenly stop working. My red fob works fine. Until today I have had no problems disabling the immobiliser.

When I bought my car, I only had one working key-fob (red). I purchased a black key-fob from Antonio in Mexico. I have contacted him again to buy a new key-fob but he tells me that VW Mexico no longer supply this part (1BM 937 109).

I have contact an immobiliser specialist and they say: The Megamos id 48 transponder will work in the 1998-2004 beetle (MEXIBUG: I suspect this is the new-shaped Beetle). Vw did use another chip in older models called the Megamos id 13 (T5).

Does anyone have more details on the RFID? Can anyone supply a replacement?

My German is not very good (and neither is Google translate). I believe this post says that a company called omnicar-ag can supply this part and the person has now bought a replacement.

Is that correct? :?:

I have emailed this company twice but sadly received no answer. I think this maybe because I am writing in English. Can you advise me on how I would ask in German for the price of this item (including shipping to England)

Has anyone else used this company recently?

Hi Simon,

If you have still got problems with disabling the immobiliser, I know how to bypass it. The main problem I have got is complete lack of time :( My freelance work has hardly stopped since about March (I have hardly been on VZi for that reason as well), vehicles MOTs and fixing various faults on my Reliant Rialto 2 estate (new radiator, sorted out burnt out wiring to name a couple of them).

I cannot discuss on how to bypass the immobiliser (permanently) on here for obvious reasons (eg. car thieves).

Hi Phade,

Great news on the work front - it is good to hear that things have picked up again. Although you mention you have limited time to support fellow owners, I continue to hear of your good work. Have you ever considered cloning?!??

At the moment bypassing the immobilizer is a secondary option. Without disclosing finer details, how difficult is it to bypass? The reason I ask is that I am currently limited to a single (Master/red) transponder and my concern is what happens if this is lost/damaged. Do I need this in order to bypass or do I always have a 'Plan B'?

I have now received a reply from . They have stated a price of:

95,00 € (incl. 19 % german tax)
17,00 € transport cost

112 € TOTAL

This is approx. £100 - which is a lot more than I paid previously. Does this price seem reasonable to other owners?

In England, I can buy a number of different replacement VW transponder chips for less than £20. This may be a better solution for me as i could afford to buy more than one. The main problem is identifying which chip is used for this car!!

Hi Simon,

I don't know how to clone transponder keys and it will be interesting for me to find out how to clone them as VW (along with other manufacturers) see it as a licence to print money. :( As soon as I find out how to clone them (and if I have any time to do any research) then I will let you know via email (I cannot remember your email address, but I will try and find it via Mac Mail).

At the moment, I seem to be working (in most cases) 5 days a week and in some cases very long hours (I didn't get home until nearly 10 last night). On top of that, I have also been trying to keep up with fixing my vehicles and getting them to run properly, taking the odd day off to get my vehicles MOTs. My Reliant Rialto 2 estate has taken me ages to try and get it to run properly and to stop it's engine from stalling at idle speed. Reliant are the only manufacturer who used a semi-sidedraught carburetter setup and a completely sealed fuel overflow/engine breather system, which is a pain and a headache to diagnose to say the least (the very slightest of leaks can cause it to run badly).

As for plan B (bypassing the immobiliser), it will take you up to 4 to 5 hours to bypass it as the immobiliser its self is very difficult to access and you may also need an inspection camera to see what you're doing. You will not be able to disable the immobiliser via the diagnostics socket as it's not connected via the OBD. I will need to email the details (Manfred also knows how to do that as well) on how to bypass it.
